Timeless Treasures from the Archives in the September/October 2026 issue of Needle Pointers Magazine covers choosing stitches and threads for painted canvases.

There have been several excellent articles on this topic going back to 1997 that includes three interpretations of a peony painted canvas and a line drawing of the peony in a 4.5″ square to challenge members. I wish I could stitch faster to do all the projects that I find interesting. This would be another one.

But, I have my own small stash of painted canvases. I’m going to select one of these for our next painted canvas discussion at my ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter meetings to take us through the end of the year. I would love to get the Rolling Stones t-shirt done for Bill by Christmas but that isn’t likely to interest everyone. And, I don’t think I can do the finishing anyway. His birthday is July and that may be more realistic. I’m leaning towards LOVE. I walked by the Philadelphia LOVE sculpture on my way to work in Center City. Those were my favorite years of work in the pharmaceutical industry. It never was as good when we moved to Conchocken and later to Collegeville.
