Rainbow Ribbons Bands 12 and 13

It’s been fun stitching on Rainbow Ribbons during our ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter Stitch-in on Saturdays. No world problems fixed but we had a nice chat while stitching.

I finished Band 13 shortly after we broke for the day and went to find out what the next band was going to be only to find out that the end diagonal band over 2 was all that was needed. So, I am done!

Band 12 was a Giant Smyrna cross stitch and Band 13 was a reverse diagonal mosaic stitch. It was harder to compensate on the inner edge than the outer edge which I found odd. But, I finally got the hang of it.

I have a month to figure out what will be good to work on at our next Stitch-in.

I enjoy stitching on Rainbow Ribbons during our ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter Stitch-in on Saturday. Again, it was followed by a rainy Sunday which allowed me to finish. And, a sunny (cool and windy) Monday allowed me to get a photo.

Getting started on Friday allows me to understand the stitch pattern so I can talk and stitch on Saturday. The eyelet was stitched after the diagonal frame.

It was helpful that Linda let us know how long a thread would be needed to stitch two complete frames. For the eyelets, I used a really long length (about 50″) and put the half way point of the thread in the middle of the first two frames. Then, I worked each column.

Rainbow Ribbons, Bands 9 and 10

I finished about 8 inches (about 2 inches per hour) of Band 9 of Rainbow Ribbons during our ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter Stitch-in Saturday and the rest on our rainy Sunday. The Milanese stitch was tough to compensate unless I just started on the inside edge and worked to the outer edge using 2 needles as I went along. Then, it was easy.

Band 10 is a simple Slanted Gobelin with back stitches but I decided to switch to a Fly stitch done on the true diagonal rather than a typical oblique angle because this piece has a lot of Slanted Gobelin already and the back stitches were not looking as good. The final appearance is identical.

This design is by Kam Wenzloff (Nov/Dec 2019 issue of Needlepoint Now) that our chapter is doing as a year-long project using Color Complements threads. I’m ready for our March 8th meeting on Zoom.

Rainbow Ribbons, Bands 6, 7, and 8

Some in my ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter are already done stitching Rainbow Ribbons by Kam Wenzloff (Nov/Dec 2019 issue of Needlepoint Now). Others of us are doing this as a year long project. We’re each using different threads from Colour Complements and they all look great.

I forgot to post Bands 6 and 7 which I finished last month. The souffle stitch for Band 6 was one which I had to do with 2 needles. Others in my chapter found it easier to stitch the all small tent stitches first and others all the longer diagonal pattern first. Whatever works for you! No needlepoint police in our ranks. Band 7 was a giant rice stitch.

And, now I am ready with Band 8, a Greek stitch alternating with a slanted gobelin row. Apparently, reading is not my forte. And, I didn’t look at the pictures of either the stitched sample in the magazine or the one being done by Linda in my chapter who is leading the project. Good thing there is no needlepoint police in our group. Mine has 3 rows of Greek after what I thought was a compensation single row of Greek. The Greek rows were supposed to be 1, 3, 3 repeating with 1, 3, 3 throughout. Oh well! I realize now another chapter member did the same thing as me. I even commented in the newsletter that the two were different and look good either way. Perhaps subconsciously I preferred it this way! Let’s go with that rationale. I do like the flow back and forth of shifting colors.

Rainbow Ribbons, Band 3

My ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter is stitching Rainbow Ribbons by Kam Wenzloff published in Nov/Dec 2019 issue of Needlepoint Now. I’m well ahead of schedule for our November 9 meeting (via Zoom).

Band 3 is a variation of a Byzantine stitch called Jacquard. It has a row of Continental between the rows of 4 x 4 over 2 Byzantine.

This was an excellent stitch to do while watching baseball playoffs and the World Series.

Rainbow Ribbons, Bands 1 and 2

My ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter is stitching Rainbow Ribbons by Kam Wenzloff published in Nov/Dec 2019 issue of Needlepoint Now.

I am stitching another and last pillow for the guest bedroom. So, I have more purple threads again. This is Lavender (51) from Color Complements and DMC #5 Perle 550.

Many of us are changing the dimensions of the stitched area and we discussed enlarging the piece at our last meeting. The piece is designed to be 163 threads wide by 160 threads high. The designer suggests stitching some of each band until you get to Band 7 because there are 40 giant rice stitches from top to bottom eliminating the need to count to 160 threads and potential counting errors. You can compensate any band to any length. However, Bands 8 and 11 are also important widths to consider when deciding the length. Band 8 is stitched as a repeating unit of 20 threads and Band 11 over 10 threads. Band 12 is also over 4 threads like Band 7. Only Band 2 is over an odd number of 3 threads. So, if you want to lengthen the piece, doing so in 20 thread increments (a little over an inch on 18 count) will eliminate compensation for Bands 7, 8, 11, and 12. Then, only Band 2 gets compensated. So, I basted in increments of 10 because I want to stitch complete columns moving left to right going down 11″.

We’re going to do 2 bands each month. And, I am ready for Monday’s October 12th Zoom meeting.

Speaking of Zoom, our Starbucks location closed permanently anyway. Another casualty of 2020. Trying to look on the positive side of it, we have Zoom and plenty of time to look for another place. I don’t believe that we will be meeting face to face at least until the spring. Between coronavirus and the weather, I have to hope by spring things will be better!

Color Complements Threads for ANG Main Line Stitchers Chapter Projects

September starts another year for our ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter. We will start out with 2 new counted projects. Twelve of us are stitching Rainbow Ribbons by Kam Wenzloff from Needlepoint Now Nov/Dec 2019 issue. And, six of us are stitching the ANG 2020 Stitch of the Month (SOTM) with three of us switching from Watercolours to Color Complements.

Most the threads got distributed to folks over lunch outdoors at Nudy’s. Everyone is very excited about getting started.

Only 2 people selected the same color as the stitched model. The rest are a wonderful array of color. Not everyone is doing the 9 x 9 design size. There are a variety of sizes including two people who are doubling the width or length.
