Seven members of the ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter shared a table at NJ Needle Fest today. I missed it the year they, Needleworkers Delight, took over running the event from Susan Hoekstra and moved out of the church in Bedminster (2019) and we all missed it last year due to coronavirus. So, it’s been awhile for me but the location, the Embassy Suites in Berkley, NJ was nice. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks were included. Door prizes (I didn’t win). And, vendors (I just can’t buy anything else with so much waiting for me to stitch). I finished the light purple Oriental stitch filling today. Only the very first part of Step 2. The day flew by!
All 4 background areas are done! One of the finishing touches was the outline in Kreinik which was an overdyed thread from Color Complements. I did the diagonal lines in the center with a few crouching stitches. The rest was long straight stitches rather than the short backstitching. And, I stitched around the vertical and horizontal lines even though the directions didn’t say it was needed. The very last step was the over 2 gobelin stitches to outline the square and give the framer some space so that the tips of the stars don’t get cut off. That’s all the same color of rust Splendor. So, the difference is the way the light reflects off the stitches.
The opening of “Celebrate the Art of Stitching” went well yesterday! I’d like to thank Lisa and Linda for presenting 2 of the portions. Jared is the Media Arts Council technical expert who also presents the “gallery” in the video. He was a pleasure to work with. And, thanks to Stephanie for inviting our group to exhibit. And, to the members of Main Line Stitchers chapter who contributed to the show.

The video shares the gallery pieces, a talk on the various ways needlepoint can be finished, a discussion of stitch selection, and on how color and value impacts stitching. The ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter’s “Celebrate the Art of Stitching” exhibit being hosted by the Media Arts Council is entirely online with a live Zoom opening on June 12 at 4 pm. There will be 3 discussions (finishing options, stitch choices, and influence of color) and a viewing of the “exhibit”. We are excited to have this opportunity to share our passion through about 100 pieces of needlepoint. Save the date & join us!

A few times a year, they invite “outside” groups to exhibit. Unfortunately, none of the pieces will actually be on display in our host’s gallery in Media, PA due to the shutdown. But, they are slowly beginning to reopen (https://mediaartscouncil.org/).
“Celebrate the Art of Stitching” showcases numerous, diverse pieces of extraordinary needlework that allow you to explore the variety of techniques and threads stitchers can produce. The exhibit includes original designs, adaptations of art and photographs, and commercial designs from nationally known designers.
The Main Line Stitchers chapter meets on the second Monday of each month from 7 to 9 pm. The group also holds a Stitch-in on the fourth Saturday of each month, from 11 am to 3 pm. Contact us at ang.mls.needlepoint.org for more information.

It’s been fun stitching on Rainbow Ribbons during our ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter Stitch-in on Saturdays. No world problems fixed but we had a nice chat while stitching.
I finished Band 13 shortly after we broke for the day and went to find out what the next band was going to be only to find out that the end diagonal band over 2 was all that was needed. So, I am done!
Band 12 was a Giant Smyrna cross stitch and Band 13 was a reverse diagonal mosaic stitch. It was harder to compensate on the inner edge than the outer edge which I found odd. But, I finally got the hang of it.
I have a month to figure out what will be good to work on at our next Stitch-in.

Because I’ve joined ANG New Jersey Needle Artists and am working on a Stitch of the Month project they have done previously, I can join their Saturday Stitch-in! They meet at the start and end of their Saturday session. The Star of Stitches by Kathy Rees is one of two Stitch of the Month projects for 2020 with my ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter.
These last two areas are stitches used in the first six areas. She combines cross, box, and diagonal stitches to create unique patterns.
I’m learning Photoshop and cropped out just Area 7 for the first photo.

Here’s the whole star finished. I am ready for tonight’s ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter meeting. Next month starts the background.
I enjoy stitching on Rainbow Ribbons during our ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter Stitch-in on Saturday. Again, it was followed by a rainy Sunday which allowed me to finish. And, a sunny (cool and windy) Monday allowed me to get a photo.
Getting started on Friday allows me to understand the stitch pattern so I can talk and stitch on Saturday. The eyelet was stitched after the diagonal frame.
It was helpful that Linda let us know how long a thread would be needed to stitch two complete frames. For the eyelets, I used a really long length (about 50″) and put the half way point of the thread in the middle of the first two frames. Then, I worked each column.
I finally stopped at the Starbucks in Malvern. I am thrilled to be able to say that Coffee Cups is being displayed prominently there! It is the Starbucks in Malvern at 260 Old Morehall Rd (a stand alone location). When you walk in the door, it is on the wall to your right. That was where I was hoping it would be put. I really wish that coronavirus hadn’t have forced our Starbucks in Wayne with our conference room to close. I’ve got to start looking for a new location. Some members are starting to get their vaccine & are anxious to meet in person again. But, I am glad Coffee Cups has a new home.
The manager, JC, was on vacation but I told the girl who waited on me that I was one of the group who stitched the Coffee Cups & she was interested in knowing more about it. She was particularly interested in how long it took us to do it.
So, stop in & check it out.
I finished about 8 inches (about 2 inches per hour) of Band 9 of Rainbow Ribbons during our ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter Stitch-in Saturday and the rest on our rainy Sunday. The Milanese stitch was tough to compensate unless I just started on the inside edge and worked to the outer edge using 2 needles as I went along. Then, it was easy.
Band 10 is a simple Slanted Gobelin with back stitches but I decided to switch to a Fly stitch done on the true diagonal rather than a typical oblique angle because this piece has a lot of Slanted Gobelin already and the back stitches were not looking as good. The final appearance is identical.
This design is by Kam Wenzloff (Nov/Dec 2019 issue of Needlepoint Now) that our chapter is doing as a year-long project using Color Complements threads. I’m ready for our March 8th meeting on Zoom.
