I thought I’d have time to finish a couple of things (read below the picture) before I worked on the key chain because I don’t have to leave Center City for my job until the end of the month. But, my husband brought a Ford Focus home on Friday for him to drive around the neighborhood. So, I decided I better get stitching & fast!
Except for the background tan, I had all the right colors in my stash!! So, I was able to get a lot done today – all except hillies, white outline, and background is done.
I finished getting the canvas ready for our chapter’s ort box project – nothing to show yet. And, the other things I’ve been stitching I can’t blog about yet either. They are the pilot class and some thank you gifts I’m making for folks who volunteer this year at the Hospitality Desk which I’ll be organizing as we get closer. I’m going to do a daily drawing for just folks who work the desk & they’ll get an opportunity to get a hand-stitched piece to commemorate the Seminar. For every hour you work, you’ll get 1 entry – so, the more you volunteer, the more chances you’ll get. I’ve made 4 gifts so far. I decided to take the time to thank you since you are taking time to work the desk. I’m really looking forward to Seminar!!
In the meantime, I’ve got a lot of handkerchiefs of my grandmother’s to photograph so I can show them to everyone. I ran out of time this weekend!
The last towel appears to be petite point on linen – again, not sure who did this. But, how can you not love roses! Very simple stitches.
I do have one green towel with only some mild discoloration that maybe washing would help. Perhaps, someday, I’ll get time to stitch up something for it. Another rosebud?
Neither the towels or the flowers appear to be hand-made but they are very cute (& could be hand-made). Another idea & not enough time.
A few lazy daisy stitches, french knots, and stem stitches looks like all that was needed for this towel. But, the pink and yellow heart outline really sets the pink bouquet of flowers off for me. Again, I have no history.
Here are 3 towels from possibly the 70s that appear to be my grandmothers work. Looks like a simple darning pattern to me with an outline stitch. There is a nice shading effect for the yellow flowers. And, she added crocheting on the bottom of the calla lily towel (I placed a black cloth underneath for the picture).
I’m getting back to my vintage items uncovered and never seen before by myself or my sister. I wish I had some history about them. Aren’t these just adorable! Too pretty to use.

I was remiss in getting my finished “Promise of Mystery” designed by Sue Reed to the framers until late 2011. It got stuck in a corner & I forgot about it. But, I got it back shortly before Christmas! It is in a simple frame with an inner silver border & outer black border.
It was fun watching the piece develop over the year-long project. I think that the ANG Stitch of the Month is a wonderful resource with clear & thorough instructions (http://needlepoint.org/Stitch.php). AND, it goes back to Feb 1998!! You don’t even have to be a member of ANG to get to that page. By allowing that to remain public, it really promotes the mission of ANG which is:
The American Needlepoint Guild provides a stimulating and challenging environment through nationwide educational programs, a national publication, and Seminars & Exhibitions in which members: develop creative potential, serve public and professional constituencies, support faculty members in the joint pursuit of excellence in teaching and research, and promote intercultural understanding through the needle arts.
While this is the only one I’ve done (to date), I really appreciate the many designers over the years & the behind the scenes work that goes into the Stitch of the Month year after year!! I’m very happy that it is finally completed & hanging. Yes, I found a spot for it!!
