During my trip to Woodlawn this year with Linda and Ginny, I picked up a Canvas Connection Golf Bag (3″ x 4″) (GB-556) from Waste Knot (4502 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA) to stitch for Bill. I love the little clubs!!!
I stitched some while he was out golfing this summer and finished it while I was on my way to and from Seminar in New Orleans this year. Since he didn’t come along this year (too hot to golf), this is a surprise gift for Christmas! I’m so happy with the finishing – Karen at Nimble Needle in NJ has a fantastic finisher.
Santa also dropped off a book for me – Sandra Arthur’s Shapes of Needlepoint Series Volume I. I am looking forward to getting time to read it once the Christmas turkey is in the oven. Merry Christmas!

I picked up “Poinsettia Ornament” which is a companion to another ornament called “A Hilton Holiday” also designed by DebBee’s Designs. I must have dropped it off with the another thing and forgotten about it! Gee, I guess I didn’t need to steal the red and green one from Buff. On the other hand, I have an ornament stand that holds three ornaments that should work well for the grouping. They are all being finished bythe same person that Karen at Nimble Needle uses and all will be done as a diamond.
Since I had too many ornaments for our little table top Christmas Tree, I finally decided to create another tree to hang some hand-crafted ornaments. I still have a few that didn’t fit. The board is the center part of a black poster board trifold with the side panels removed. One side panel is taped on the back to add some spacer for the push pins. I used black duct tape to protect the edges and green duct tape to make the tree.
All the ornaments have been hand-made by myself, my mother, and my grandmother or bought at a craft show except for the 3 wooden ones near the top because I wanted a couple of more snowflakes and a big star to top the tree. Most are cross stitch designs but the bottom center one is my own needlepoint design with one of my favorite Christmas pins.

Peg Dunayer’s Triangle Santa ornament from Needlepoint Now (Nov/Dec 2007) was finished through Nimble Needle and I absolutely love it! The sparkles just make it a little more special. My ANG Keystone Garden Chapter stitched as a project in 2014 and when I got it back I forgot to post it too – been slipping on my blog.

This Snow Globe Santa by Janet Casey Ziegler was stitched by Linda from my ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter. I was thrilled when she gave it to me last Christmas but I forgot to place it on my blog. So, here it is for posting this Christmas!
And, I was just as happy to get a Christmas Basket this year from Linda. Yes, she’s also a beautiful sewer.
I did make pillowcases for a charity, Ryan’s Cases for Smiles, earlier this year. Linda helped me with them too because it had been 40 years since I’d used a sewing machine. The two we made are in the upper left corner of the picture. Then, I made 2 more at our Community Day at work using a regular machine and a surger. It was fun. One of the women in my group enjoyed the event so much that she is getting a sewing machine for Christmas. Linda kept her eyes open for sales & found a great deal from Steve’s in King of Prussia, the Anna model, half off for just $200 and a great machine for a beginner. It almost makes me want to take up sewing!!
But, I have tons of needlepoint projects started and ideas of my own that I want to work on and 3 big events with classes coming in 2017. Linda and I are both attending Blue Bonnet for Toni Gerdes’ classes Fire & Ice and Bronze Purse in February and Nashville Needleworks in April with Laura Taylor for Embracing Horses. Then, I will take a 4-day canvas embellishment class at ANG Seminar in Anaheim with Cynthia Thomas after taking her Creating Diagrams and Stitch Guides using Microsoft Office class. I didn’t forget about my husband, Bill. We’re extending each trip to take in local sites. And, we have a non-needlepoint train trip across Canada planned for July-August (actually, I will stitch but no classes). We’ll be married 30 years in Oct 2017 – lots of fun times ahead!
Completed the mystery project, Keystone Garden Patch! It was designed by Tony Minieri for the chapter many years ago. It’s nice that is was recycled because many of us were not here then. It’s been fun watching it grow monthly since February.
I decided to mount it on a Rosewood gift box (8″ x 6″ x 2″) that I ordered from woodcrafter.com. An extra finishing edge (binding stitch) was added so that I could cut right up to the needlepoint. I used an acid-free mounting board with a sticky side. And, I finally got out my glue gun to attach it to the box. Glad I practiced because the glue dries fast. It was my gift for our shuffleboard group and Janice ended up with it. And, she sent me a wonderful thank you note. I’m so glad that she appreciated it.

A few of our ANG Main Line Stitchers (MLS) Chapter members met last night at Buff’s house for a wonderful evening! Food & friends – what could be better? An ornament exchange!! We drew numbers and did the steal (sorry Buff – I swear I won’t steal from you next year). But, I already have a red & green one (center one in picture) that this will go great with!!
It was great to see Nancy, Marnie, and Carole who have been absent for various reasons for a couple of months. We always appreciate the effort they make coming from Delaware & New Jersey! Patrick, Yvonne, Linda, Buff, and I completed the group last night.
We decided to go with “unfinished” ornaments so we could finish in whatever manner we preferred. The designs were all from the Kick Back & Stitch series by Terry Gifford (someone donated a variety of different instruction booklets). We distributed them last summer so people could work on them. Not everyone participated (which is fine) and the 2 “finished” ornaments pictured below were augmented by some handy stitching supplies.
We were happy to welcome Kristen and Kathy this year to MLS. Best wishes for a healthy and happy year to all our members! Hope to see you and more new members in 2017.
