As Valentine’s Day approaches, I share ‘Love in My Heart’

Filed under: Love in My Heart

When I started this project, I only had the frame that I had purchased for $5.  So, I had to make the design fit the frame.  I decided to play with a few stitches that would work themselves into small hearts.  I usually work it out on paper by hand.  I have no computer stitch program – so, I have a big eraser & make several drafts before I get started.

It is stitched on a plastic canvas & DMC Cotton Perle from AC Moore because at the time I wasn’t aware of any specialty thread shops.

It was fun finding different stitches that worked:

And, using different thread combinations for the same stitch:

I don’t recall what stitches they were & I wasn’t writing anything down at that point.  Maybe the 2 above are a heart-shaped Rhodes?  And the one below a heart-shaped waffle stitch?

Hope you are loving what your stitching!

And, many thanks and all my love goes out to my husband, Bill, for all his support!

New Tagline

I just figured out how to change my tagline! And, how to fix the clock – I’m not on UTC time now – who even knew there was a Coordinated Universal Time!   There is a lot of functionality to blogging that I haven’t figured out yet but I’ll figure it out over time.  I don’t want to cut into my stitching too much – especially after sitting a computer all day long.

4-way Bargello class

Filed under: 4-way Bargello class at Rittenhouse Needlepoint

Taking a class in 1&1/2 hours isn’t a lot of time especially when it’s a 4-way bargello.  But, Stephen at Rittenhouse Needlepoint made it work by designing a small enough piece to demonstrate the essentials. We had a variety of colors to select from – already bundled.  The base row took the longest to stitch (& unstitch) requiring concentration.  Turning the corner proves to be the next trickiest area.  After a full day of work, I was very pleased with the instructions, materials, classmates, refreshments, & to get this much done during class:

After an evening of stitching, I still haven’t violated the miter!!

January, SOTM

I am laying a DMC Cotton Perle (310) in outer row to create a raised effect. It certainly isn’t dramatic & you can feel it more than you can see it.  I like the little bit of shimmer in the Vineyard & was hoping for more on the outer row.

It’s only the second piece that I’ve charted on the canvas.  Seemed confusing – until I was able to sit down & focus on it.  I used a purple pen – or disappearing ink from a fabric store & then a pencil once I was sure I had gotten it right.  The January stitch is working up quickly.  It was a rainy Sunday here.

I finished the January STOM.

Thanks for 3 comments & 300 hits in the first day!

Thanks & wow – my husband & I just got in!! I had 3 comments, 1 email off-line (that I’ll respond to tomorrow on the blog as well – about what stitches are being used in the Sun Flower) & 300 hits – in the first day of activating my blog. Wow!! I knew there were alot of people in ANG but that’s way more activity than I expected. I was happy when I saw 3 people comment & for what they said & then to see 300 of you came & looked at the site – thanks.

It’s going to be mystery how this will turn out.  But, I’m using my stash!

Color Family A – Black: Vineyard Silk Shimmer (S-538), DMC Cotton Floche (310) [in place of Splendor Silk], 24 Karats (K06) [in place of a Krenik #12 Braid], Mill Hill Beads (00081).

Color Family B – Light Gray: Vineyard Silk Shimmer (S-539), Splendor (S891), DMC metallic floss (silver) combined with Splendor (S891) [in place of Silk Lame], Kreinik Fine #8 Braid (001) inserted into the center of Flair (F593) [a tip & trick shared by David McCaskill & I will try in place of a Kreinik #12 braid], DMC metallic floss (silver) [in place of Accentuate metallic].

Color Family C – Med Gray: Vineyard Silk Shimmer (S-536), Splendor (S1118), Rainbow Linen (R469) [in place of a Krenik #12 Braid], Petite Very Velvet (S-616) [in place of a Krenik #16 Braid]

24 Karats by Rainbow Galleries

Splendor, Rainbow Linen,  & Petite Very Velvet by Rainbow Galleries

Of course, I reserve the right to swap threads (not color family) if I find the threads just don’t work with the stitches.

I better get started stitching!!!

Sun Flower, after a month

The petals are coming along nicely.  Haven’t gotten back to flower or background yet.  Now that the holidays are over, I can settle in for the winter.  I know, Philly winters aren’t THAT bad!!

The petals in the forefront are using a more sparkling combination of Neon Rays + (NP02) by Rainbow Galleries & Trebizond (TRA125) by Access while the receding petals are muted by using Grandeur Silk Pearl #5 (G802) by Rainbow Galleries & a subtly overdyed Watercolours by Caron (131).

The entire area will use 3 Wildflowers by Caron (a combination of 037, 152, and 158) with DMC Cotton Perle #5 (823) couched on with DMC floss (823). The thread is thin enough to allow the canvas to show though.

The dark green area uses Wild Hairs (WH001) from The Thread Gatherer couched using Anchor floss (280). The light green uses DMC #5 Cotton Perle (734) and Kreinik Very Fine #4 braid (3228).
